Art vs. Technology

When one talks about the development of Intellectual Property rights  in the music and movies industries, one hears the claim that new technology is threatening the livelihood of the artists and the profitability of the industry.

Leaving the question of my personal opinion in the matter out of this post (though regular readers of the blog have probably developed a suspicion),

a wonderful article at the Smithsonian Magazine telling of the battle music players waged against the introduction of recorded music into cinema halls back in the 1930s, seems like an excellent case to relate to, while arguing.

[due credit: I first heard of this article on Techdirt]
